Four women died and 28 people were injured when a tractor-trolley overturned in Sheopur district, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday night. The villagers were heading to a wedding rice distribution event when the driver lost control due to darkness and glare from oncoming lights. The injured were rushed to hospitals, with several in serious condition.
A tractor-trolley overturned on Tantra-Vijaypur Road near Khitarpal village in Vijaypur police station area of Sheopur district, Madhya Pradesh, late Thursday night. Residents from Ghooghsa village in Virpur police station area were traveling to Parbati Baroda village for a rice distribution event ahead of a wedding on April 20.
The four women killed at the scene were Saroj wife of Magadh Gurjar, Suneina wife of Kalla Gurjar, Seema wife of Kallu Gurjar, and Geeta wife of Ghanshyam Gurjar, all from Ghooghsa. Police stated the driver lost control due to darkness and the glare of oncoming headlights.
Onlookers pulled the injured from under the trolley and Dial 112 ambulances rushed them to Vijaypur Community Health Centre. Several were later referred to hospitals in Sheopur and Gwalior. Former minister Ramanivas Rawat and former MLA Babulal Mewra visited the hospital to check on the injured.
Police have begun investigating the cause of the accident.
