France leads Iraq 1-0 at halftime thanks to a Kylian Mbappé goal. The match at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field was then halted due to a lightning alert.
Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a powerful strike from the edge of the box. The French captain, on his 100th cap, thus scored his 15th World Cup goal.
At halftime France led 1-0 after dominating the first period. Heavy showers then made the pitch slippery.
Just after the break a lightning alert led to evacuation of the stadium. US protocol requires a minimum 30-minute stop when lightning is detected within a 13-kilometre radius.
Didier Deschamps said the situation was changing rapidly and that players would need another warm-up before a possible resumption around 1:50 a.m.
