The German women's national football team advanced in the Nations League semi-final against France and reaches a final for the first time since the 2022 Euros. The return leg in Caen ended 2:2, following a 1:0 win in the first leg. Germany will face Spain in the final.
The DFB women drew 2:2 (1:1) in the Nations League semi-final return leg against France in Caen, advancing to the final thanks to their 1:0 first-leg win in Düsseldorf. It marks the first final for coach Christian Wück's team since the 2022 Euros final.
The match started dramatically: Melvine Malard headed France ahead in the 3rd minute. Nicole Anyomi quickly equalized in the 12th with a stunning goal into the top left corner after spinning past her marker outside the box. The first half was attack-minded; goalkeeper Stina Johannes saved from Malard in the 32nd minute.
In the second half, Klara Bühl made it 2:1 for Germany in the 50th minute. Bühl, who scored in the first leg, moves to 17th on the all-time scorers list. France pressed, with Selina Cerci hitting the bar (74th) and Kadidiatou Diani denied by Johannes (82nd). Clara Matéo equalized with a header in the 89th, but Germany held firm in injury time.
Anyomi returned after tensions with Wück and shone; Jule Brand, now at Lyon, assisted her goal. France, world-class for 15 years without a major title, faltered again. In the final, Germany faces Spain on November 28 in Kaiserslautern (world champions who beat Sweden 4:0 and 1:0), with the return on December 2.
