Germany will take on Curacao in their opening World Cup Group E match on Sunday. The four-time winners are expected to dominate the smallest nation ever to qualify for the tournament.
Germany and Curacao are scheduled to meet at 6pm UK time. Germany warmed up with friendly wins over Finland and the USA. National team director Rudi Voller said an opening win is important and the team aims to top the group.
Curacao coach Dick Advocaat expressed confidence ahead of the clash. "We know straight away where we stand. We want to go through to the next round and a surprise is always possible," he said. Goalkeeper Eloy Room noted the match carries extra rivalry due to the squad's Dutch connections.
Germany are set to start with Manuel Neuer in goal despite a calf issue. Curacao have no reported fitness concerns. The match will be shown on ITV 1 and ITVX.
