President José Antonio Kast's government held meetings on Monday with all parliamentary groups over the megareform signed last week. The sessions with Frente Amplio (FA) and the Communist Party (PC) were the last, led by Minister José García Ruminot, joined by Undersecretary Constanza Castillo and Emiliano García.
In the PC meeting at 1 p.m. in Santiago's Congress, deputies like Daniela Serrano demanded withdrawal of the bill, calling it a 'disguised regressive tax reform' benefiting the richest 1%. The FA, at La Moneda with Constanza Martínez and others, requested splitting reconstruction funds from tax adjustments to fast-track urgent parts.
García Ruminot rejected alterations: 'The project is a harmonious set of measures' needed for investment, jobs, and fiscal balance. He defended outreach: 'The day I took office, I said we would talk to everyone'.
UDI deputies Flor Weisse and Jaime Coloma labeled it a 'show to pretend openness', saying FA and PC are irrelevant. PNL's Paulina Muñoz said: 'The best is to order his sector', and Álvaro Jofré noted neglect of the right flank.
