US rider Hallie Coon and Kapriccio topped the CCI5* standings after the first day of dressage at the Longines Luhmühlen Horse Trials on 18 June with a score of 27.8. Britain's Stephen Heal sits third on Hagonda, while Germany's Julia Krajewski leads the CCI4*-S on Tullabeg Platinum with 27.2.

Coon described her 11-year-old gelding as the best horse she could have. She said she would not want to be on any other mount after the pair posted the only sub-30 score of the day.

Tim Price lies second overnight on 31.7 aboard Happy Boy. The world number one noted two mistakes in the trot but was pleased with the rest of the test.

Emma Thomas and The Buzz Factor scored 38 to sit seventh in the five-star. Thomas, who nursed a finger injury, rode with her reins upside down and called the 15-year-old former Pony Club champion a special horse making his five-star debut.

Cross-country is scheduled for 20 June. The second day of dressage for the remaining five-star combinations and the CCI4*-S concludes on 19 June.
