Democratic Alliance federal leader Geordin Hill-Lewis addressed service delivery issues in KwaZulu-Natal during the party's provincial congress in Durban on Saturday. He urged municipalities to demonstrate effective governance and highlighted the uMngeni Municipality as a model. Hill-Lewis identified the eThekwini metro as the party's next priority for improvement.
Geordin Hill-Lewis spoke at the Democratic Alliance provincial congress held in Durban. He called on KwaZulu-Natal to move away from broken services toward reliable government delivery. The DA leader pointed to the uMngeni Municipality in Howick as an example of successful local governance under the party.
Hill-Lewis said the party's immediate focus now shifts to the eThekwini metro. He argued that Durban should function as a well-managed municipality providing consistent services, safety, and economic opportunities for residents.
“We know what it means when literally, the very idea of government crumbles and collapses and chaos and disorder take over,” Hill-Lewis stated. “This province knows what that means. It knows what it means when people lose faith, that government can work for the people and not for themselves.”
