Hiratsuka Tanabata Festival features Olympic skaters decoration

A bamboo decoration of Olympic figure skating pair champions Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara was displayed at the Hiratsuka Tanabata Festival in Kanagawa Prefecture on Sunday.

The Tanabata Festival traces its origin to a folktale about two lovers represented by the stars Altair and Vega. They are separated by the Milky Way and are allowed to meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month.

The event on Sunday included the bamboo decoration of the Olympic champions, drawing visitors to the site in Kanagawa Prefecture.

This traditional festival is held annually in the region around the Tanabata period.
