Hong Kong police arrest man after seizing HK$800,000 of suspected heroin

Hong Kong police arrested a 44-year-old man in Tuen Mun after seizing suspected heroin worth about HK$805,000. Officers spotted the man acting suspiciously outside a flat on Yan Po Road. The suspect, surnamed Chan, is detained for investigation.

Hong Kong police announced on May 1, 2026, that officers from the Tuen Mun district anti-triad unit were conducting an operation at around 9.50am the previous day when they spotted a man acting suspiciously outside a flat on Yan Po Road.

After stopping the man for questioning, officers found about 300 grams (10.6oz) of suspected heroin in a reusable bag he was carrying. They also discovered an additional kilogram of heroin inside the flat. The force said the total market value of the drugs seized was about HK$805,000.

Following a preliminary investigation, police arrested the 44-year-old Hongkonger, surnamed Chan, on suspicion of trafficking in dangerous drugs – an offence punishable by up to life in prison and a HK$5 million fine.

As reported by the South China Morning Post, the force made the announcement on Friday, and the man is currently being detained for investigation.
