Hugo Calderano wins WTT Star Contender in São José dos Campos

Brazilian Hugo Calderano defeated Frenchman Alexis Lebrun 4 sets to 3 in the final of the WTT Star Contender São José dos Campos on Sunday (26). The win took place before a packed arena and marked the athlete's third consecutive title on Brazilian soil.

Calderano led 3-1 in the match but saw Lebrun tie it at 3-3. In the seventh and decisive set, the Brazilian overcame a comeback to win 11-9, with partial scores of 11-9, 3-11, 11-6, 13-11, 4-11, 8-11 and 11-9.

The title ended a nearly year-long drought without individual WTT circuit wins. The last had been in Foz do Iguaçu in August 2025. Calderano also reached the mixed doubles final alongside Bruna Takahashi but lost to the Japanese pair Shunsuke Togami and Satsuki Odo.

Other champions of the event included Hina Hayata in women's singles and Wong Chun Ting with Chan Baldwin in men's doubles. The tournament was held at Vale Sul Shopping in São José dos Campos.
