Indian passport rises to 80th in 2026 Henley Passport Index

The Henley Passport Index 2026 has ranked India at the 80th spot, five places higher than last year. This ranking reflects an improvement in the list of the world's strongest passports.

The Henley Passport Index 2026 has been released, ranking the Indian passport at the 80th position. This marks an improvement of five places compared to the previous year. According to India Today, the ranking measures global travel freedom.

Passport strength is assessed based on visa-free or visa-on-arrival access. For India, this progress is significant as it indicates greater ease in international travel. However, it still trails top-ranked countries like Singapore and Japan.

The report was published on January 14, 2026, prepared by Henley & Partners. The index covers passports from 199 countries.
