JCS chief and USFK commander visit U.N. Command security battalion

On November 27, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Jin Yong-sung and U.S. Forces Korea Commander Gen. Xavier Brunson visited the U.N. Command security battalion to mark the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. The two generals encouraged service members and served food to South Korean and U.S. troops, thanking them for their frontline service in defending South Korea's security.

The visit, scheduled for the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, saw Jin and Brunson encouraging service members and serving food to South Korean and U.S. troops, expressing thanks for their service on the front line of defending South Korea's security, according to the JCS.

The UNC security battalion is the only fully combined battalion between the UNC and South Korea and the only UNC element fully deployed to the Demilitarized Zone separating the two Koreas, according to the UNC website.

"Our platform is people, and you remain our true asymmetric advantage. As we give thanks, let us pursue wisdom, show up every day, and be a source of hope for our nations and our partners and allies," Brunson wrote in a separate post on X, formerly Twitter.

Following the visit, Jin inspected front-line posts under the Army's 1st division, reviewing readiness posture and receiving a debrief on recent North Korean activities in the tense border area. The top military officer urged troops to equip themselves with overwhelming capabilities for immediate response to any situation and ordered responses in accordance with principle and procedure in the event of a provocation, the JCS said.

This event underscores the close U.S.-South Korea military alliance amid ongoing tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
