Jonas Blue has rebranded his music career after leaving his major label and returning to Defected Records. He released the tracks Edge of Desire and Girl while preparing a nine-week Ibiza residency called SENSES.
The British artist spoke to Billboard from Tokyo ahead of shows in Japan. He described dropping his previous label commitments to focus on original music made with live instruments and old collaborators such as Derrick McKenzie from Jamiroquai.
SENSES will feature music, visuals and scents drawn from different cultures. Blue said the concept was inspired by a visit to The Sphere in Las Vegas and aims to engage all senses during performances.
He also criticized the current state of AI in music. Blue called the unregulated use of artists' work to generate new tracks absolutely horrendous and said he prefers creating without such tools.
Blue said he is now unsigned and plans to release music without a fixed schedule. He added that he is enjoying the freedom after years of commercial pressure.
