Magistrate Juan Carlos Peinado has ordered the Spanish prime minister’s wife to prove within five days that she traveled to the United Kingdom for her daughter’s graduation. The passport shows no entry or exit stamps.
Judge Juan Carlos Peinado issued a ruling on Monday ordering Begoña Gómez to prove use of her passport for the authorized trip to London. The deadline is five non-extendable days.
The measure aims to confirm whether the document was used solely to attend her daughter’s graduation. Defense sources note that British border controls are electronic and produce no physical stamps.
The passport had been returned provisionally last week by substitute judge Antonio Viejo. Gómez returned it to the court on Sunday. The magistrate denied the trip to the NATO summit in Ankara.
