A man was fatally stabbed and robbed of his mobile phone by a minor in Delhi's Rohini neighborhood on Wednesday night. Police quickly apprehended the juvenile suspect following a tip-off. The incident highlights ongoing concerns over street crimes in the capital.
The attack occurred late Wednesday evening in the Prem Nagar area of Rohini, northwest Delhi. At around 10:33 pm, a police control room call reported a stabbing, prompting officers from Prem Nagar station to rush to the scene. They found that the victim had already been taken to Shree Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Using technical surveillance, the Delhi Police tracked the perpetrator, a juvenile, and arrested him in the same locality. During interrogation, the minor confessed to the stabbing, which was motivated by an attempt to snatch the victim's mobile phone. Authorities recovered the weapon—a knife—and the stolen device based on his statements.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Sandeep Gupta provided details: "On Wednesday, at about 10:33 pm, a PCR call regarding a stabbing incident was received at PS Prem Nagar station. Police staff immediately reached the spot and learnt that the injured had already been shifted to SGM Hospital, where the doctor declared him dead."
Gupta added that the juvenile admitted to the crime, and proceedings under juvenile justice laws are underway. The investigation continues as police probe any potential accomplices or further motives. This case underscores the challenges of juvenile involvement in violent crimes in urban Delhi, where such incidents have prompted calls for stricter monitoring.
