Lagno and Lee advance in Women's Speed Chess

GM Kateryna Lagno and IM Alice Lee moved to the quarterfinals of the 2026 Women's Speed Chess Championship after victories in their round of 16 matches on Wednesday.

Lagno defeated IM Karina Ambartsumova by a score of 10.5-3.5. She won the first five games in the 5+1 segment and finished with a strong performance across all time controls.

Lee edged out former Women's World Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk 9-7. The match stayed close until tiebreaks, where Lee won three of four bullet games to secure the win.

Lagno earned $2,625 while Lee took home $2,343.75. Both players will face new opponents in the quarterfinals, which begin on Friday, July 10.
