Las Condes ecological program exceeds 2,000 tons recycled in first year

Las Condes' Home Collection Program for Organic Waste marked its first year by recycling over 2,000 tons, avoiding 367 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Mayor Catalina San Martín celebrated the results by delivering compost to residents and called for greater community involvement.

Las Condes municipality released the first-year results of its Home Collection Program for Organic Waste. The initiative surpassed 2,000 tons of waste processed into compost, as per the official report.

Monthly collection grew by 400%, from 44,000 kilos in the first month to 220,000 kilos now. It involves 22,000 households, reaching 66,000 residents who place organic waste in provided bins.

Weekly, Local Compost company collects the bins and processes them at an industrial composting facility. Mayor Catalina San Martín, while handing out compost to participants, stated: “This program is changing the way we manage our waste. It not only reduces environmental impact but also shows that advancing toward a recycling culture is possible with active neighbor participation.”

The program aims to promote sustainable habits and lessen environmental impact in the commune.
