Lindsey Buckingham announces new solo album

Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has revealed plans for a new solo album, marking his first full-length project since 2021. He shared details on social media, expressing excitement about the work without disclosing a title or release date. The announcement comes amid recent reconciliation efforts with bandmate Stevie Nicks.

Announcement Details

Lindsey Buckingham, renowned for his work with Fleetwood Mac, took to social media to tease his upcoming solo album. In a post, he described the project as "the culmination of everything that I've learned from making solo albums over the last 25 years." He added, "I feel like this particular album is the culmination of holding a certain line ethically and idealistically that I've managed to maintain for many years. I'm really excited about this piece of work."

No specific title or release date has been announced, leaving fans anticipating further updates. This will be Buckingham's eighth solo studio album, following his self-titled 2021 release, which he produced entirely in his home studio.

Background and Recent Context

Buckingham's solo career began with his 1981 debut, Law and Order, which featured contributions from Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood and peaked at No. 32 on the U.S. charts. Reflecting on that album in a 2018 Stereogum interview, he noted its sarcastic and ironic tone. His solo work often explores directions not fully realized in Fleetwood Mac, as he told Classic Rock in 2022: "much of my solo work collectively is a little more off to the left than what was generally offered in Fleetwood Mac."

The announcement coincides with the re-release of Buckingham Nicks, the 1973 album he made with Stevie Nicks before joining Fleetwood Mac. Previously out of print and unavailable on streaming, it became a cult classic. Promoting it separately on Song Exploder, Nicks revealed they are communicating again: "Lindsey and I started talking about it last night. This whole thing seems really like yesterday to us." Their last interaction before this was a brief three-minute encounter at Christine McVie's 2023 memorial, as Nicks shared with Rolling Stone in 2024: "I dealt with Lindsey for as long as I could."

This development signals an end to their long-standing feud, which led to Buckingham's 2018 dismissal from Fleetwood Mac.
