Producers of Love Island UK have removed contestant Gabriel Garland from the villa after learning of his connection to a 2019 stabbing case in London. Garland had already filmed scenes in Casa Amor before the issue came to light. ITV confirmed he will not return to the show.
The decision came after background checks revealed the connection, though Garland was never charged or convicted in the case. Producers had not flagged the matter earlier because no offense was recorded against him.
ITV told Deadline that the removal was a direct result of the new information. The network noted its vetting process did not uncover the details at the time of casting.
This marks the second unexpected exit this season. George Knight left the villa earlier this month for personal reasons.
