Following his Golden Globe win for the same score, Ludwig Göransson won the Best Original Score Oscar for Sinners at the 2026 Academy Awards, marking his fifth nomination and third win overall in the category. Sinners set a record with 16 nominations and won four Oscars, including for lead actor Michael B. Jordan. Göransson accepted the award from the reunited Bridesmaids cast at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre.
Ludwig Göransson's Oscar win for Best Original Score on Sinners capped a strong awards season, following his earlier Golden Globe victory in the same category. He beat competitors Alexandre Desplat (Frankenstein), Jerskin Fendrix (Bugonia), Jonny Greenwood (One Battle After Another), and Max Richter (Hamnet).
At the Dolby Theatre, the Bridesmaids cast presented the award. In his speech, Göransson thanked his father for sparking his musical passion: “My dad bought his first blues album in Sweden, 1964. It was a John Lee Hooker album... [full speech as original].” He also credited Ryan Coogler.
Sinners earned a record 16 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, and won four: Best Actor (Michael B. Jordan), Best Original Screenplay (Ryan Coogler), Best Cinematography (Autumn Durald Arkapaw), and Best Original Score. For reference, the previous year's Oscar winner was Daniel Blumberg for The Brutalist.
