Madison Keys was defeated by Linda Noskova in the Wimbledon round of 16 on July 6. The 21-year-old Czech player won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6.
Keys had advanced past Amanda Anisimova in the previous round with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. She entered the match as a two-time Wimbledon quarterfinalist and recent Eastbourne Open champion.
Noskova secured the first set after breaking Keys at 4-5. In the second set, Noskova took an early 3-0 lead before Keys fought back to force a tiebreaker, which Noskova won 7-2.
Fans expressed disappointment on social media. One wrote, “Can beat Amanda but not Linda. Wild.” Another noted surprise at the result given Keys’ strong grass-court form this season.
Noskova will next face Elise Mertens in the quarterfinals.
