Police detained a man at Stockholm Central Station on Tuesday evening with a bag suspected to contain explosives. The operation prompted large cordons, but the item was later deemed harmless. Sources suggest it involved narcotics, though police have not confirmed details.
On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 6:19 p.m., police were called to Stockholm Central Station after a person was detained with a bag full of suspected explosives. Several patrols were dispatched to the scene, and parts of Klarabergsviadukten as well as the station were cordoned off during the operation. The bomb squad was called in due to suspicions of explosives.
Police spokesperson Robert Sennerdal confirmed the incident was classified as a 'control of person/vehicle.' 'We wanted to know what the person had with them. We didn't get good answers. Therefore, we had to cordon off and check the person's bag,' he said. Later, police announced the item had been examined and deemed harmless. 'The bag's contents turned out to be completely harmless, for people nearby the central station at least,' Sennerdal added.
One person was detained in connection with the operation, but no preliminary investigation has been initiated. The cordons were lifted shortly before 8 p.m. According to reports to Expressen and Aftonbladet, it involved suspected narcotics, but Sennerdal could neither confirm nor deny this: 'I cannot confirm or deny that at the moment.'
The operation disrupted public transport; SL had to reroute bus lines 65 and 69, which could not stop at Centralen during the cordon, according to SL spokesperson Sophie Gunnarsson. Police stated there was no danger to the public.
