A man in his 50s was shot dead on a farm outside Klippan in Skåne on Sunday. Witness Olle Olofsson, 82, saw his friend run onto the property after a gunshot and collapse. Police are investigating the incident as likely an accident, with theories of a self-inflicted wound or a stray hunting shot.
The incident occurred on Sunday on Olle Olofsson's farm outside Klippan. The two men, who were friends, were sitting at the kitchen table before the 55-year-old headed out to feed wild animals ahead of hunting, including wild boars with corn. Suddenly a shot was heard, and Olle saw his friend run onto the yard and collapse.
Olle's tenant rushed out to try to stop the bleeding while police and ambulance were called. The man's life could not be saved. Olle learned of the death later that evening from his son, who had heard it on the news. "It feels tough," says Olle. "It didn't feel good."
Police have classified the event as gross negligence causing another's death and suspect no intentional act. The man was armed but not part of any local hunting group, despite ongoing hunts with multiple teams that morning. One theory is a self-inflicted shot, as a shell from the man's weapon was found. Another points to a possible stray shot from the hunt.
Several weapons, including the man's own and those of hunters, have been seized along with GPS equipment to track positions. Witnesses have been interviewed and technical examination is complete at the scene. "We currently have no suspicions that anyone intentionally took the man's life," says police spokesperson Jimmy Modin. "We are ruling nothing out. We are awaiting the results of the seized weapons. This examination will determine the direction of the investigation."
Olle, who has hunted extensively in the area himself, does not feel unsafe. "I've hunted a lot here before and don't feel unsafe in any way," he says. The weapon analysis is expected to take a few days.
