Mariska Hargitay will host the 78th Emmy Awards ceremony on NBC in September. The Law & Order: SVU star made the announcement through a statement released by the network.
The ceremony is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 14, at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles. It will air live on NBC at 8/7c and stream on Peacock.
Hargitay said in a statement that hosting the Emmys is an honor in NBC's 100th year. She noted her career has focused on bringing important stories to light and celebrated the community of television storytellers.
Jen Neal, Executive Vice President of Live Events & Specials at NBC & Peacock, called Hargitay one of television's icons for her 27 seasons on the show. Television Academy chair Chris Abrego highlighted her talent and connection with audiences.
Hargitay has played Olivia Benson since Law & Order: SVU debuted in 1999. The series enters its 28th season this fall, and she won an Emmy for the role in 2006.
