Meta's social media services experienced widespread disruptions on June 12. Users reported problems accessing Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp starting around 9 a.m. ET.
The issues began right before 10 a.m. ET, with Downdetector recording peaks of over 20,000 reports for Facebook. Similar spikes occurred across Instagram and Messenger.
Meta Vice President of Communications Andy Stone posted on X that the company was aware of the trouble and working to resolve it. An update from the firm later stated services were coming back, though full restoration might take time.
By early afternoon some users regained access, but status pages continued to show disruptions for others. The outage followed patterns seen in previous Meta incidents.
