Microsoft is rolling out a new low latency profile in Windows 11 that temporarily boosts CPU power to make apps, menus, and core features like the Start menu respond faster. The update addresses long-standing complaints about sluggish performance and follows earlier reports of the feature under development as part of the Windows K2 project.
The low latency profile activates extra CPU speed during tasks such as opening menus or launching apps. In preview builds of Windows 11 25H2, Windows Central testing showed clear responsiveness gains on identical hardware compared to the current public release. The boost is designed to last only briefly, ramping the processor to maximum frequency for one to three seconds on high-priority tasks, delivering reported improvements of up to 40 percent faster app loads and 70 percent quicker interface launches for apps including Edge, Outlook, and the Start menu.
