After an El Financiero article identified him as a resident, the lawmaker sent a reply letter, prompting the outlet to correct the story and apologize. Ayamonte features homes priced between 30 and 67 million pesos.
El Financiero published an article on April 25 titled “Neighbor of the Vergaras? Who is the Morena senator living in Mexico's most expensive neighborhood?”, suggesting Carlos Lomelí Bolaños resided in Ayamonte, an exclusive Zapopan development with average home prices of 55 million pesos.
In a letter to the editors on April 26, Lomelí Bolaños categorically denied the claim. “As a public servant, I am fully locatable. My activity is public, permanent, and open,” wrote the senator, demanding a clarification and criticizing the lack of prior verification.
The outlet updated the story that day, acknowledging the error: “After being contacted by Senator Carlos Lomelí, who clarified he owns no property in Fraccionamiento Ayamonte, El Financiero's newsroom reviewed the information and corrected the content.” They issued apologies to the lawmaker and their audience, pledging improved verification processes.
Ayamonte, built by Legorreta + Legorreta, is located near Estadio Akron and Bosque de la Primavera. It offers amenities including a 9-hole golf course, clubhouse with pools, gym, and spa. An ITESO study ranks it alongside areas like San Pedro Garza García for exclusivity, with residents such as former Jalisco governor Emilio González Márquez and Jorge Vergara's family.
