Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch arrived at Cairo International Airport on Sunday evening, welcomed by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. Akhannouch leads a high-level delegation to launch the first session of the Egypt-Morocco joint coordination and follow-up committee.
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly received Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch at Cairo International Airport on Sunday evening, with an official guard of honour and both national anthems. The welcoming party included Egypt's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid, head of the honour mission, and Moroccan Ambassador to Cairo Mohamed Ait Ouali.
The two prime ministers are scheduled for bilateral talks on Monday at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, followed by an expanded meeting of delegations and the signing of several documents and agreements to boost cooperation across sectors.
The visit followed a preparatory meeting on Sunday at Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, co-chaired by Ambassador Ihab Fahmy, Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs, and Ambassador Khalid bin Sheikh, Director of Maghreb, Arab, and Islamic Affairs at the Moroccan Foreign Ministry. Representatives from more than 50 ministries and technical entities participated, reaching consensus on strengthening cooperation in priority sectors.
Ambassador Fahmy stated the committee is the first high-level mechanism of its kind between the nations, fulfilling directives from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and King Mohammed VI to elevate relations and activate economic and trade frameworks for a genuine partnership. The diplomatic push occurs amid turbulent regional conditions linked to military operations against Iran, with Egypt expressing categorical rejection of Iranian attacks on Gulf and other Arab countries.
