Former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni has been fined Rs 1000 for violating traffic rules by overspeeding in Ranchi. The incident occurred near his residence, where a traffic monitoring system recorded the violation. An e-challan was issued under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian men's cricket team, faced a minor traffic violation in his hometown of Ranchi. On a recent date, his vehicle was caught exceeding the speed limit near his house, leading to a fine of INR 1000. The challan was issued electronically under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act, as confirmed by local traffic authorities.
This incident comes ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, where Dhoni will represent the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The franchise retained him as an uncapped player for INR 4 crore following a challenging previous season, in which CSK finished last with four wins and ten defeats. Dhoni contributed 196 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 135.17, supporting captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.
The 43-year-old cricketer has been dealing with fitness issues over the years, and IPL 2026 is likely to be his final season. CSK has bolstered its squad by adding Sanju Samson, who is expected to take over as the primary wicket-keeper.
Earlier, Dhoni received a notice from the Jharkhand State Housing Board regarding the alleged misuse of a residential plot for commercial purposes. The traffic fine, though minor, has attracted attention from fans due to Dhoni's prominence in cricket.
