The control tower at Munich Airport was evacuated on Sunday evening due to a burning smell. Flight operations were temporarily halted and later resumed.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening around 20:33. The tower was evacuated after air traffic controllers detected a burning smell, though no fire or smoke was visible. Deutsche Flugsicherung temporarily stopped flight operations. The cause was a defective fan component in the ventilation system. A part was replaced, after which operations returned to normal. A spokesperson for the airport company confirmed: “Flight operations are running completely normally again.” Some flights were delayed or cancelled. The night flight ban was extended by one and a half hours until 1:30 a.m. on Monday morning to handle delayed aircraft. The main Pentecost holiday travel had already been processed by that time.
