The National Working Committee of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged Nigerians to ignore social media reports claiming the party is lobbying Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for its 2027 presidential ticket. National Secretary Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu attributed the claims to a parody X account mimicking the party's verified handle. The party instead invites all Nigerians to join and contest on its platform.
The NDC issued a statement on April 26, 2026, dismissing reports from an X post shared on Sunday that suggested the party was offering a joint presidential ticket to Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party candidate, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party ahead of its primary deadline.
"Please, ignore any report... claiming that the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, is lobbying any specific individual or group," the statement by Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu read. He noted that the post came from a rogue account parodying the verified @NigerianNDCHQ handle, which the party has previously disassociated from. Official communications should be checked on the verified @NigeriaNDCHQ.
When contacted, Enekweizu reiterated that many unverified social media accounts falsely claim to represent the NDC. "If it’s not from our verified handle, it’s not from us," he said.
Separately, the NDC was invited to an opposition summit in Ibadan but could not attend due to short notice, though its flags were displayed at the venue. The party thanked Nigerians for support and extended an open invitation, especially to women and persons with disabilities, to join and promote multi-party democracy.
