Weekly downloads of the Netflix app in South Korea rose sharply to 136,400 during the March 16-22 period, driven by a livestreamed BTS concert in Seoul, data from IGA Works showed. Data from IGA Works showed Netflix recorded 136,400 app downloads in South Korea for the March 16-22 week, compared with 70,300 the previous week. The surge was driven by Netflix's livestream of a BTS concert held at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul on March 21.
The event, titled "BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE ARIRANG," marked the release of the band's fifth studio album, "Arirang." During the same period, Coupang Play saw 77,400 new downloads, while Tving posted 56,400.
On a daily basis, Netflix app downloads peaked at 66,800 on March 21, up from 14,700 the day before. This was the first time weekly Netflix app downloads in South Korea exceeded the 130,000 level.
