New wave of robot voices claiming to call from police

Swedish police are receiving numerous calls from people targeted by scam calls using automated voices.

Police are being flooded with calls from people who have received scam calls where a robot voice claims to be calling from the police. An example of what the voice says is that the national ID card has been stolen and that the person is involved in a criminal investigation.

The police emphasize that they never call people in this manner. When it is from automated voices, just hang up, says Björn Seeth at the police's National Fraud Center.

This is one of several waves of this type of scam calls. Reports have mainly come in from police regions East, West and North. The voice may also say it is from your bank or that you have debts, according to Seeth.
