Police in upstate New York arrested a couple after their 6-week-old twin boys were found with severe, non-accidental injuries including brain bleeds, broken bones and burns. The father faces felony assault charges while the mother is accused of child endangerment for ignoring the harm. Both infants remain hospitalized.
Camron Douglas, 32, and Brittany Spicer, 34, were arrested on April 2 by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office following treatment of their twin sons at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital in Newark, New York. Court documents show the parents brought one boy to the hospital on March 15 with life-threatening injuries. Medical staff alerted Child Protective Services, which had the twin brother examined; he suffered similar harm inflicted by Douglas in February and March, police said. One twin had burns on his face and abdomen, along with seizure-like symptoms that morning, though Spicer delayed hospital care until 5 p.m. that day despite knowing of the injuries, according to authorities. Douglas faces two felony assault counts and remains in custody after pleading not guilty; his case heads to a grand jury. He had been paroled following prior convictions for attempted burglary and assault. Spicer, charged with two misdemeanor child endangerment counts, also pleaded not guilty, was released April 2 and has a next court date of May 13. She must stay away from the twins, and her 3-year-old child was removed from her custody. The twins are still hospitalized and will move to foster care upon discharge.
