While theaters across Sweden have lost audiences since the pandemic, Norrbottensteatern is thriving. The new production of 'A Christmas Carol' has already broken sales records before its premiere. Tickets are selling out fast in Luleå.
Since the pandemic, theaters across the country have lost audiences, but not in Norrbotten. Norrbottensteatern in Luleå is now staging 'A Christmas Carol', based on Charles Dickens' classic story about the miser Ebenezer Scrooge, portrayed by Görel Crona. The production is described as an eerie ghost story set in a wintry Victorian London.
Director Bobo Lundén is enthusiastic: "A musical theater where you sit in the eye of the storm and the story of guilt, power, and reconciliation grips you and doesn't let go. An epic experience."
On stage are actors including Nora Bredefeldt and Erik Kaa Hedberg, along with ten others. Of the 15 performers, ten are students from the nearby Teaterhögskolan.
Lundén praises the young talents: "Our students are fantastic and this building is unique in Sweden."
The premiere takes place on Saturday, October 26, 2025. According to sales manager Anna Thurfjell, the production has already erased the previous ticket sales record. "The audience is very eager for theater," she says, noting that interest has grown gradually since the pandemic. Soon, shows will be sold out.
