A man has died and four people were seriously injured after a tourist bus plunged down an embankment on La Gomera's GM-2 road near San Sebastián. The crash, involving 27 British tourists and the driver, happened shortly after 1:15 p.m. on Friday, with brake failure as the main suspected cause. Several officials have responded to the incident.
A bus operated by Gomera Tours, carrying 27 British tourists—including three unharmed minors—and the driver, plunged down an embankment at kilometer 2 of the GM-2 road, near San Sebastián de La Gomera by El Revolcadero. The incident was reported shortly after 1:15 p.m. on Friday. Cecoes 112 sources confirmed one dead and 27 injured in total.
Four people suffered serious injuries, including two men aged 73 and 42 with multiple traumas, first taken to Hospital Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe on the island and then airlifted by medical helicopters to Hospital de La Candelaria in Tenerife. The remaining 23 moderately injured were treated at the island hospital. Emergency response included SUC ambulances, Guardia Civil and GES helicopters, and other resources.
The Guardia Civil considers brake system failure the main hypothesis. Insular director of the General State Administration Juan Luis Navarro said the experienced driver, familiar with the route, "tried to fight" the failure, but the vehicle went down the slope. "Fortunately it stopped before being thrown off because otherwise it could have been much worse," Navarro stated. Gomera Tours sources noted it is a routine route.
The Canary Islands Government declared an alert for multiple victims, and the Cabildo restored traffic with caution advised. President Fernando Clavijo posted on X that he is "following" the emergency efforts. Minister Ángel Víctor Torres called it a "tragic news" hoping for no more victims. This stretch of GM-2 had a fatal accident in May 2025.
