One person was killed in a shooting in the Brynäs neighborhood of Gävle on Saturday evening. Another was seriously injured but not in life-threatening condition and taken to hospital. Police suspect links to criminal environments and are seeking witnesses, including Tesla owners.
On Saturday evening, October 25, 2025, Gävle police were alerted to loud bangs in the Brynäs neighborhood shortly after 8 p.m. Several residents reported sounds like gunshots, with one witness describing five or six bangs followed by more. Police deployed a large force and cordoned off four locations near Stenebergsparken, an area with apartment complexes, a school, and a church.
Soon, police confirmed multiple shots had been fired and two people hit. One died at the scene, while the other was taken to hospital with serious injuries. "One died at the scene and the other was taken to hospital," said Magnus Jansson Klarin, police spokesperson. Relatives were notified overnight into Sunday. No arrests have been made, and police are hunting one or more suspects. The incident is classified as murder and attempted murder.
Police assess the shooting as linked to criminal environments. "We have reason to believe this incident is connected to criminal environments or events; these are not unknown individuals who were affected," Jansson Klarin said. They are appealing for public tips and are particularly interested in footage from vehicle cameras, including Teslas. "Teslas have these 360-degree cameras, and they've been a success factor in other investigations," he explained.
This is the second major shooting in Gävle in a short time. Three weeks ago, on the night of October 4, six people were injured in a mass shooting at Södra Kungsgatan in central Gävle. A 13-year-old was arrested as a suspect in that incident, but no one suffered life-threatening injuries. Police are investigating possible links between the events. "It's no news that there's a conflict situation in Gävle right now," Jansson Klarin noted.
