Scopely Explore is preparing new features for Pokémon Go as the game marks its 10th anniversary. Vice President of Product Michael Steranka outlined three focus areas in a recent interview. The plans aim to build on the game's community roots and long-term appeal.
The mobile game, which launched in 2016, now sees daily active users between five and six million. Scopely acquired the title following Niantic's $3.5 billion sale of its gaming portfolio, with the team rebranded as Scopely Explore.
Steranka highlighted three priorities for the coming years. The first targets the gyms feature, which has seen little change since its introduction. He said there is untapped potential to bring communities together in new ways.
The second area centers on creating core memories through live events and features such as Unity Raids. The third focuses on supporting multi-generational play, with families now spanning up to three generations of players.
Twenty-one real-life events are scheduled for 2026. Steranka noted that the team has considered the next decade of Pokémon Go for several years already.
