Retired Major General Abubakar Rabe, a former Defence Spokesman, was killed by his kidnappers two weeks after being abducted by bandits alongside his wife.
The retired officer was laid to rest in Katsina in accordance with local traditions. His widow, Hajiya Amina Abubakar, remains in captivity following the abduction.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed shock at the death and stated that the government would not release any terrorists' men in custody. The Defence Headquarters also issued a statement mourning the loss.
David Mark described the incident as a national tragedy. Social media reactions highlighted concerns over safety, with many noting that even a general could die in such circumstances.
