Ros Canter and Ginny Elliot met at Burghley earlier this month to mark Canter's new plinth on Winners’ Avenue. The pair discussed their victories and the changes in eventing over the decades.
Ros Canter unveiled her plinth commemorating her 2025 win with Lordships Graffalo. Ginny Elliot, a five-time Burghley winner, joined her along with the horse’s owners Michele and Archie Saul.
Elliot recalled the physical demands of past competitions, including carrying two stones of lead during roads and tracks phases. She also described a showjumping memory lapse in 1986 on Master Craftsman and a challenging ride on Night Cap in 1984.
Canter noted the extra pressures of competing while nearly five months pregnant last year. Event director Martyn Johnson described the gathering as a special reflection on how Burghley wins change lives.
Elliot praised Canter as an extraordinary rider who will remain prominent in the sport.
