Screen Australia has unveiled two new programs to help Australian filmmakers connect with international audience expertise. The initiatives partner with Tatino Films and Publikum. They target scripted narrative features for theatrical release.
First Cut Lab works with early to mid-career practitioners on projects budgeted below AUD8 million. Up to four projects per round receive workshops and mentorship from international delegates in festival programming, directing, editing and producing.
Impact & Insights pairs established practitioners with Publikum for strategic advice. The partner uses anthropological research and data analysis. Up to three development projects and five post-production titles can join each round.
Screen Australia head of market and audience Rakel Tansley said the programs aim to empower filmmakers with tools and audience insights. A related webinar on audience data is scheduled for July 14.
The initiatives form part of a refreshed strategy and sit alongside three other programs reopening soon.
