Several parties lack candidates in all Dalarna municipalities

Liberalerna, Vänsterpartiet and Miljöpartiet have failed to field viable candidates in all Dalarna municipalities ahead of the autumn elections. The deadline for submitting locked lists has passed. Helle Bryn-Jensen from Länsstyrelsen Dalarna described it as unfortunate for democracy.

The parties worked until the last moment, but Liberalerna lack lists in Älvdalen, Orsa, Hedemora, Säter, Vansbro and Leksand. Vänsterpartiet has no list in Malung-Sälen. Miljöpartiet is not fielding candidates in Malung-Sälen, Rättvik and Älvdalen.

Helle Bryn-Jensen, election coordinator at Länsstyrelsen Dalarna, said: "It is unfortunate when established parties cannot be represented in all places in the county – it impoverishes democracy."

Martina Elfström, county chair for Liberalerna, explained: "That we cannot put together lists in all municipalities is not only due to the latest month's statements, there are other reasons too." She added that a harsh tone towards politicians deters candidates.

The lists concern locked lists, where only the nominated candidates can be elected. This affects the municipal elections this autumn in Dalarna.
