Silfverberg leads Brynäs to first playoff win over Växjö

Jakob Silfverberg emerged as the match hero, scoring in overtime to give Brynäs its first victory in the SHL quarterfinal series against Växjö Lakers. The win came in Gävle after the home team had lost the first two games. Silfverberg credited inspiration from the women's team's SM-gold the day before.

Brynäs hosted Växjö Lakers for game three of the quarterfinals in Gävle, turning the series around with a hard-fought overtime victory. After dropping the opening two matches, the team finally broke through, with Silfverberg delivering the decisive goal to reduce the deficit in the best-of-seven series, as he told Gefle Dagblad (GD). The performance marked Brynäs' first playoff win this postseason. Silfverberg highlighted the women's team's recent SM-gold as a key motivator. 'They have made a really impressive journey and deserve all the praise. It's really fun and hopefully we can ride their momentum now,' he said to GD. The forward also pointed to improved discipline and play in the middle zone as crucial factors. Brynäs limited Växjö's entries and avoided costly 'backdoor goals' that had plagued them earlier. 'We've checked those off and hopefully there won't be any more like that. Today it was good, and we stayed compact in the middle zone, making it harder for them to find good entries,' Silfverberg explained to GD. Looking ahead, Oskar Lindblom will return from suspension for the next game.
