Battery-electric vehicle sales in Europe surged 33 percent to 226,577 units in October, driven by competition and incentives in Germany and the U.K. Skoda and Renault gained ground as Tesla and Volkswagen slipped. Overall, the Dacia Sandero claimed the top sales spot for the fifth month.
European battery-electric vehicle (BEV) sales rose sharply last month, reaching 226,577 units, a 33 percent increase from the previous year. This growth was fueled by intensifying competition and government incentives in key markets like Germany and the U.K., according to Automotive News.
In the EV segment, Skoda and Renault overtook Tesla amid the rising rivalry. Tesla, previously a leader, saw its position weaken, while Volkswagen also slipped. The report highlights how these shifts boosted Skoda and Renault's market presence in the electric vehicle competition.
Shifting to overall vehicle sales, the Dacia Sandero from Renault Group secured first place in October, marking its fifth monthly victory. In contrast, the Tesla Model Y experienced a significant slump, dropping to 65th place after holding the No. 1 spot in September. These results underscore the dynamic changes in Europe's automotive market, where affordable models like the Sandero outperform premium EVs amid economic pressures and policy support.
