The Pittsburgh Steelers tight end group has been ranked as one of the top five units in the NFL for the 2026 season by Yahoo Sports.
Yahoo Sports placed the Steelers fifth league-wide after the team signed Darnell Washington to an extension. The unit now features two of the NFL's 12 highest-paid tight ends in Washington and Pat Freiermuth.
Jacob Infante noted that Pittsburgh posted the second-highest 13 personnel rate last season. Both Freiermuth and Washington ranked inside the top 20 in PFN TE Impact Scoring, making the Steelers one of only two teams with multiple tight ends in that group.
The third tight end role remains open. Candidates include veteran Robert Tonyan, undrafted rookie Lake McRee, and former Patriots pick Jaheim Bell. New offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio brings extensive tight end coaching experience.
Freiermuth and Washington are expected to lead the position under head coach Mike McCarthy.
