Tennessee man charged in road rage shooting that paralyzed teen

A 46-year-old man faces multiple charges after authorities say he shot a 15-year-old passenger during a road rage incident on a Tennessee highway last month.

Jeffrey Robert Brooks was arrested this week in connection with the June 26 shooting on southbound Highway 153 near Chattanooga. Police said the incident began as a confrontation between Brooks's pickup truck and a blue Honda Fit carrying two teenagers.

According to investigators, the vehicles engaged in a rolling road rage dispute that ended when the truck pulled alongside the Honda and fired shots. One bullet struck the 15-year-old in the back, damaging his spinal cord and leaving him unable to move his legs.

Brooks is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, felony reckless endangerment, and tampering with evidence. Court records show he was held on $100,000 bond at the Hamilton County Jail.

Detectives identified Brooks after reviewing license plate reader data and surveillance video that matched his blue Nissan Titan. Police noted he replaced the truck's broken rear window and removed an American flag decal days after the shooting.
