Tepetlaoxtoc prepares complaint against Animal Experience administrator over Kenzo escape

The municipality of Tepetlaoxtoc is preparing a complaint to the FGJEM against the administrator of the Animal Experience refuge, from which the Bengal tiger Kenzo escaped and died during capture on July 2.

Municipal president Diana Morales confirmed that accountability will be demanded for omissions in handling the specimen. The feline remained free for five days and created risk for residents of three communities.

The refuge operated for more than two decades and housed ten wildlife specimens. Morales stated that permanent closure of the site and relocation of the remaining animals will be requested from PROFEPA.

PROFEPA closed the facility after detecting irregularities in the installations and the authorized management plan. Kenzo’s capture occurred around six in the morning on July 2; the animal died during transport after a lethal containment protocol was applied.

Ernesto Zazueta, president of AZCARM, accused PROFEPA of staging events following changes in official information about the tiger’s condition.
