Jacob Daniel Vega, 40, faces charges of aggravated assault after police say he strangled his seven-weeks-pregnant wife in front of their young child at their home in Waco, Texas. The incident occurred on Monday on Misty Drive. Officers noted visible injuries on the victim consistent with strangulation.
Police responded to a 911 call late Monday morning from a residence on Misty Drive in Waco, where a woman said, 'I can't take this anymore,' according to an arrest affidavit. Vega approached officers upon their arrival and admitted to an altercation with his wife. He described locking himself in the bedroom during an argument, moving a shoe rack after she banged on the door, and then sitting on her and strangling her with both hands for two to three minutes until she went limp, police said. The couple's child was present in the bedroom during the attack, law enforcement reported. Vega told officers to check on his wife, who was found sitting on the floor with the child crawling nearby, complaining of numb legs and a sore throat. She confirmed Vega sat on her and strangled her, echoing his account. Officers observed broken blood vessels in both of her eyes and redness on her neck. The woman, seven weeks pregnant, has been married to Vega for six years and living with him for two. She was taken to Hillcrest Hospital for evaluation, while Vega was booked into McLennan County Jail on aggravated assault-family violence charges. Records no longer list him as an inmate.
