Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Brighton centre-half Jan Paul van Hecke for £52 million. The 26-year-old defender has one year remaining on his contract with the Seagulls.
The agreement was reported by The Athletic on June 16. Brighton chose to sell now to avoid losing the player for free next summer.
Van Hecke has made 131 appearances for Brighton since joining from NAC Breda in 2020. He is currently with the Netherlands squad at the World Cup.
If completed, the transfer would reunite Van Hecke with former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham. The deal is separate from Brighton's rejected £30 million bid for Tottenham's Luka Vuskovic.
Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League last season. They have already added Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson on free transfers, with captain Cristian Romero expected to depart this summer.
