Arizona State Sun Devils and University of Houston Cougars are set to compete at the Charlie Thomas Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M on February 6-7 in College Station, Texas. Both teams enter the two-day indoor meet with strong recent performances. The event begins at 11 a.m. on Friday at the R.A. Murray Fasken Indoor Track.
The Charlie Thomas Invitational marks a key stop in the 2026 indoor track and field season for several teams, including Arizona State and Houston. Arizona State, coming off a solid showing at the Corky Classic on January 16-17 in Lubbock, Texas, will send 38 athletes to College Station. At the Corky Classic, freshman Amir Thompson won the men's 300m in 32.29 seconds, while junior Jayden Davis took first in the men's 600y with a time of 1:07.92. Graduate thrower Ines Lopez set a personal record of 16.28 meters for second in the women's shot put, and freshman Malith Yasiru placed second in the men's triple jump at 15.65 meters. Overall, 18 Sun Devils finished in the top 10, with eight earning top-three spots.
University of Houston also arrives in form after the Robert Platt Invitational. Sophomore Evina Panagiotou set a school record in the women's pole vault, clearing 4.21 meters to win. In throws, sophomore Esther Osisike threw 19.94 meters for second in the women's weight throw, a personal best that ranks fourth in program history, while senior Zaeda Houff's 19.62 meters placed her fifth all-time. Redshirt sophomore Ty Lott's 20.43-meter men's weight throw earned third and second on the program list. Other highlights included junior Antrea Mita's 2.15-meter win in men's high jump, sophomore Cleo Agyepong's 15.90-meter victory in women's shot put, and freshman Zac Miller's 4:00.64 mile, the third-fastest in Houston history.

Arizona State's roster includes distance runners like Dayton Carlson and sprinters such as Nolan Bartley, while Houston's athletes span similar categories. This invitational precedes bigger competitions like the Big 12 Indoor Championships.
